Jakarta, 18/09/2020. Year of Culture is an annual cultural exchange program initiated by the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) since 2012. The event aims to introduce Qatari culture to the international audience through a variety of exhibitions, festivals, competitions and events, also to explore cultural similarities and differences between both countries. Some countries that have been partners in this program are Japan (2012), Turkey (2015), Germany (2018), and India (2019).

This is indeed a good news for our country, because Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) as the organizer is a cultural instigator that coordinate 8 major museums in Qatar, and certainly is very careful in selecting partners of this program, seen from the countries that have been involved in it. Indonesia is chosen with various considerations, one of which is the picturesque diversity and the potential that Indonesia has both in cultural and socioeconomic.

This program is planned to run throughout the year and involve numbers of cultural institutions in Indonesia, one of which is the National Museum of Indonesia. This was communicated by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Doha (KBRI Doha) to the National Museum of Indonesia in an online meeting on September 17, 2020. There were several things discussed together by both parties, including plan to hold joint events such as seminars and exhibitions as well as intention to cooperate with the National Museum of Indonesia in the long term.

This cooperation plan was responded by enthusiastic approval by the museum, in take of consideration that the program will be in line with the vision of National Museum of Indonesia to become a museum of Indonesian Culture with international standards as well as the mission to become a high quality museum in term of collection management, educational and recreational facilities, and governance with public engagement.

Hopefully, this plan will be discreetly prepared by the Indonesian team in particular, reflecting that this program is potential to be utilized in the promotion of culture, economy, and investment.
